Description

The course gives students a broad and practical knowledge of key topics within aeronautical engineering. The course gives students the option to pursue a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. The course is particularly useful as a master’s level degree is a requirement for the attainment of engineer status in Ireland.

Minimum Requirements

Mathematics  O4 or higher /H6 or higher
Six LC subjects   06 or higher/ H7 or higher/ 2x H5

Year two or three of the degree can be accessed through a Level 6 or Level 7.

Structure/Content of the Course

Year One and Two

During year one and two , students study the following modules , Air Transportation Management, Mathematics, Thermodynamics, Materials Science, Introduction to Engineering, Production Technology, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering Mechanics, CAD (Computer Aided Design), Fluid Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry

Year Three

Composes of a 4 to 8-month work placement in the Aviation Industry (May to January). While Semester 2 lectures look aircraft vibrations, flight dynamics and aircraft design.

Top performing students in 3rd year get an opportunity to spend a semester at the world-renowned Embry Riddle Aeronautical University or Georgia Tech.

Year Four

Students choose to complete a Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering in year four or continue to complete a Master of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering across year four and five.

Bachelor of Engineering

Modules include aircraft conceptual design, propulsion systems, flight dynamics and simulation as well as aircraft structures. Further students complete an FYP based on desired topic.

Master of Engineering

Students of the master’s program complete the same modules as the bachelor’s degree with the addition of aerodynamics and elective modules. Students also get the opportunity to complete the Design, Build, compete module which requires to build a remote-control aircraft

Year Five (Master of Engineering ONLY)

Students spend the year on a research project while also studying advanced technical communications and advanced aircraft structures.

Career Opportunities

This Degree enables students to gain a career in the field of aviation. The Course is one of the most renowned aviation courses in Europe and further a-field. More than 70% of graduates work in the aviation sector with more than 65% placed in Ireland.

Many students have graduated and worked with major companies like Rolls Royce, Airbus and Boeing. Further students will have opportunities in the following areas, Aircraft and Engine Design, Aircraft Leasing, Maintenance, Flight Testing, Simulator testing, and flow design control. Careers can also be linked to formula one racing.
