On Saturday, the 7th of March, the annual Pilot Careers Live was held in Croke Park. Approved Training Organisations such as Atlantic Flight Training Academy and FTE Jerez as well as other airlines and companies such as Aer Lingus, Pooleys and the Irish Aviation Authority were present.

Pilot Careers Live started at 10:00 and concluded at 16:00. Throughout the day, there was a  series of informative presentations by industry experts. First up was Margie Burns from Aviation Selection Consultants who discussed the various tips that will help your aviation career off to a flying start.

Next was Senior Air Traffic Controller, Helen Sheridan and Ann Marie Ward, Employee Relationships Manager at the IAA who discussed what life is like as an Air Traffic Control and how prospective applicants can apply for the Student Controller Programme.

Proceeding this, Captain Steve Connolly from the Irish Air Corps gave an insight into the Air Corps Cadetship and the day to day duties involved as an Air Corps Pilot Officer such as HR and support.

After a 35 minute break, Question Time commenced. This involved a panel of representatives from ATO’s throughout Europe answering questions from a pre-event survey. This included representatives from AFTA, Skyborne Airline Academy, FTE Jerez and National Flight Centre. Questions relating to Modular vs. Integrated courses and funding were among the topics answered.

Captain Marnie Munns discussed how you can future-proof you career and gave advice on how it is possible to stay one step ahead in this competitive industry.

Finally, Captain Karl O’Neill from Aer Lingus discussed recruitment methods as well as the diverse and varying routes to careers in the flight deck. Captain O’Neill also discussed Aer Lingus’ DUBHub operation and how it has had a positive impact on their transatlantic growth and load factor performance.

 

All in all, it was great day for us here at IASA.
