Outlook:  Growth of Aviation Courses within Ireland

The number of aviation courses on offer to students in Ireland has soared over the past number of years. The aviation industry within Ireland and globally is booming. The number of aviation courses on offer within Ireland reflects the demand for aviation professionals in the workplace.

There are many aviation companies dotted around Ireland such as; airlines, flight schools, lessors, MRO firms, aviation law firms, aviation consultancy firms, aviation professional services firms, aviation technology firms, IFE providers, ground handlers, caterers, manufactures and many more! All of these firms require competent employees which have great knowledge of the aviation industry – Something that the aviation courses in Ireland are offering.

There are many institutions such as; DCU, DIT, CIT, UL, QUB, UCD Smurfit, IT Carlow, LIT and The Law Society of Ireland all offering aviation related courses covering areas such as engineering, aviation finance, aviation law, aviation management, pilot studies, aircraft dispatch and many more.
Ireland has long been the centre for aviation finance across the world but now faces stiff competition from Asia. Lobby group, Aircraft Leasing Ireland was set up in recent months with the aim of Ireland retaining its position as the aviation finance centre of the world. UCD Smurfit offer a Masters in Aviation Finance while The Law Society of Ireland offer a Certificate in Aviation Leasing & Finance and also a  Diploma in Aviation, Leasing & Finance.

One of the most recent aviation courses is International Business with Aviation Studies (BA Honours) and is offered by Cork Institute of Technology. This course is unique as this is a programme geared at trained pilots to help them get the business skills that may be valuable in career progression and mobility. The programme recognises your aviation training (ATPL) as equivalent to two years of study with two years of further study online culminating in the award.

IT Carlow also offers a large number of aviation courses with specialisms in; engineering, pilot studies, aviation management and flight dispatching.

University of Limerick offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance & Airworthiness Engineering and many more.

Dublin City University offers one undergraduate course, B. Sc. Aviation Management with Pilot Studies and one postgraduate course, Masters in Aviation Management (Aviation Leadership).
